German Chancellor Fellowship

The Fellowship

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is searching for the leaders of tomorrow – from Brazil, China, India, Russia, and the USA. The German Chancellor Fellowship offers you an opportunity to take the next career step in Germany – irrespective of your field of work. The Foundation grants up to 50 German Chancellor Fellowships annually – up to ten for each country.

For the one-year fellowship, each fellow proposes and conducts a research project. The program also includes ongoing mentorship with a host organization, German language courses, a study tour of Germany, and networking opportunities with other fellows and German companies & institutions.

These young professionals come from a wide range of fields such as politics, business, public administration, media, society and culture. The intention is that they, as prospective leaders, will then act as intermediaries between their own country and Germany once their stay here is over. This fellowship programme is under the patronage of the chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.

My Project

My fellowship project will focus on conducting research around engagement, specifically in museums & cultural institutions.

  1. Examine how agencies & institutions define engagement (across analog, digital, and human interactions)

  2. Evaluate what makes an experience / exhibition engaging for visitors

  3. Summarize best practices and case studies

The intended impact is to aid in improving engagement at arts institutions & educational environments, in support of increased understanding of history & culture, as well as facilitate positive visitor experiences.

My Background

My professional background is in digital + experiential production at a design agency in NYC, brand strategy, content marketing, partnerships, as well as two years teaching abroad. My degree is in Art History from Williams College, and I interned at the Museum of Arts & Design, New York. [Linkedin]

I have been traveling full-time since 2014 while working remotely — visiting 50+ countries and 200+ museums around the world. I am also the coauthor of the Digital Nomad Survival Guide.

With this fellowship, I'll be able to leverage my background in art history, experience design, and content marketing with my interest in innovative curation & engagement practices to help empower museums to better engage with their audiences & the broader public.
